The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the appointment of Shri Aviral Jain as its new Executive Director (ED), effective from October 1, 2024. Shri Jain’s promotion to this prestigious position comes after an illustrious career of over three decades within the RBI, where he has gained vast experience in a variety of key operational domains.

Before assuming the role of ED, Shri Jain served as the Regional Director for Maharashtra, a role in which he was responsible for overseeing RBI’s operations in one of India’s most economically significant regions. His career within the central bank spans diverse areas such as supervision, currency management, foreign exchange regulation, and human resource management, showcasing his expertise in handling crucial aspects of the banking system.

As an Executive Director, Shri Jain will now be tasked with overseeing the Legal Department, the Premises Department, and will act as the First Appellate Authority under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. His responsibilities will include ensuring the smooth functioning of legal matters, managing the bank’s physical infrastructure, and addressing RTI-related appeals.

Shri Jain is highly qualified, holding a post-graduate degree in Economics. He also brings with him specialized certifications in Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC) practices, and Capital Markets. In addition, he is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF), further enhancing his credentials in the field of banking and finance.

Shri Jain’s vast experience and strong educational background position him well to take on the challenges of his new role at the RBI, as the institution continues to navigate the complexities of India’s evolving financial landscape.

This appointment underscores RBI’s commitment to leveraging seasoned professionals in key leadership roles to maintain stability and foster innovation within India’s financial system.
