Malaysia Launches Anti-Dumping Duty Investigation into PET Imports from China and Indonesia

Malaysia has initiated anti-dumping duty investigations into imports of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from China and Indonesia, according to a statement from its trade ministry on Friday, August 9.

The investigation began following a petition submitted by a domestic producer on July 10. The petitioner alleged that PET imports from these countries were being sold at prices significantly lower than their domestic selling prices.

The complaint also claimed that the volume of dumped imports from China and Indonesia has increased, resulting in material injury to the domestic industry.

The ministry indicated that a preliminary finding will be issued within 120 days from the start of the investigation, although it did not specify the exact date the probe commenced.

“If the preliminary determination is affirmative, the government will impose a provisional anti-dumping duty at the rate necessary to prevent further injury to the domestic industry,” the ministry stated.
