PhonePe Partners with PickMe in Sri Lanka
Fintech firm PhonePe has partnered with Sri Lankan ride-hailing platform PickMe to enable UPI-based payments for Indian travelers in Sri Lanka, the Walmart group company announced on Thursday. Last month, PhonePe also partnered with LankaPay to allow its users to make UPI payments across Sri Lanka.
“Our partnership with PickMe exemplifies our commitment to providing Indian travelers with convenient and trusted payment solutions. Previously, navigating payments in a new country could be a hassle. Now, with the Fintech, Indian tourists visiting the beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka can enjoy the ease and security of UPI payments for their rides,” said Ritesh Pai, CEO of PhonePe – International Payments.
The collaboration follows the Fintech’s launch in Sri Lanka last month, during which Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha encouraged Sri Lankan companies to partner with Indian firms to leverage the UPI platform for innovations in hotel bookings, cab bookings, delivery services, and more.
“We are currently the only ride-hailing platform in Sri Lanka offering this service to Indian travelers, and we aim to continue innovating to make our service a convenient, safe, and cost-effective mode of transportation for everyone. This collaboration not only enhances convenience for Indian travelers but also supports our mission to drive digital transformation in Sri Lanka’s transportation sector,” said PickMe CEO Jiffry Zulfer.
