Alipay+ Expands Mobile Payment Services Across Europe for UEFA EURO 2024

SINGAPORE / BERLIN, 12 June, 2024 – As the official payment sponsor of UEFA EURO 2024, Alipay+ and its global partners are gearing up for a busy summer. The company is expanding cross-border mobile payment acceptance and introducing exclusive offers for users of partner e-wallets, anticipating a surge in travel.

The company, along with Ant International’s Antom and WorldFirst brands, will feature on LED display boards in stadiums and on 50 TV channels across Europe. The Top Scorer trophy will be awarded at the UEFA EURO 2024 finale on July 14 in Berlin, Germany.

To support fans and travelers, more than 400,000 merchants in Europe now accept mobile payments via Alipay+ from 14 international e-wallets and banking apps. This includes over 370 banks in Germany and Austria through a partnership with Bluecode. The company users can make payments at key travel-related locations like department stores, retail chains, convenience stores, airports, F&B outlets, and attractions.

Alipay+ has also partnered with Crédit Mutuel in France to enhance merchant acceptance at retailers, hotels, and restaurants. This includes G7 taxis for the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. In the UK, over 50,000 merchants, including Harrods and Selfridges, now accept Alipay+ thanks to a partnership with DNA Payments. In Spain, The company users can shop at El Corte Inglés and dine at Boqueria Market Barcelona. In Italy, the company has expanded its partnership with Worldline Italia.

Danny Chung, General Manager of Alipay+ Europe, Korea, Middle East, and Mongolia, expressed optimism for a busy summer, expecting an influx of international visitors for the UEFA EUROs and Paris Olympics. Alipay+ aims to enhance the travel experience with seamless mobile payment solutions.

To engage fans, Alipay+ has distributed over 2,000 UEFA EURO 2024 tickets through various campaigns. In Europe, a promotional lottery in multiple countries resulted in over 400 tickets being given away. In Asia, campaigns with partner e-wallets have reached over 700 million engagements, distributing 780 tickets, 8 million vouchers, and involving 1 million participants in a football mini-game.

WorldFirst also ran a ticket draw for its SME merchants, awarding 172 tickets. This highlights Alipay+’s commitment to supporting businesses during the summer’s major sporting events.
