RBI announces appointment
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced on Monday the appointment of Arnab Kumar Chowdhury and Charulatha S Kar as executive directors. Both will oversee three departments each. Kar’s appointment as Executive Director (ED) is effective from July 1, while Chowdhury’s appointment takes effect from June 3, 2024.
Prior to his promotion, Chowdhury served as Chief General Manager-in-Charge in the Department of Supervision. As executive director, he will oversee the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), the Foreign Exchange Department, and the International Department.
Kar, before her promotion, served as Chief General Manager-in-Charge in the Human Resource Management Department. She will now look after the Department of Communication, the Human Resource Management Department, and the Right to Information (First Appellate Authority).
Kar’s Credentials:
- Post-graduate in commerce from the University of Mumbai
- Diploma in Treasury and Forex Management
- Certified Associate of IIBF
- Over three decades of experience at the RBI
- Extensive work in payment and settlement systems, information technology, government banking, internal accounts, and human resource management
- Represented RBI in several BIS Working Groups and served on various committees
Chowdhury’s Credentials:
- Chartered accountant
- Master’s degree in economics
- Certified Associate of IIBF
- Over three decades of experience at the RBI
- Extensive work in the supervision of financial entities, corporate strategy, budgeting, accounting, and issue department
- Served on several committees and working groups, contributing to policy formulation
